South_Lateral Moraine: This moraine was created by the debris which was left here over 20,000 years ago by the pushing action of the Thompson Glacier, flowing out of Forest Canyon above Moraine Park.
A similar, but not so evident, moraine can be seen on the north side of Moraine Park. About 12,000 years ago, Moraine Park was a large lake created by the terminal moraine left by the Thompson Glacier. Since then, the terminal moraine has been eroded to drain the lake, and now Big Thompson River flows through it.#
